IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alden "Peewee"
Le Roy Dehlin
April 6, 1917 – July 31, 2016
Alden "PeeWee" Leroy Dehlin passed away peacefully July 31, 2016, at his home with his wife of 69 years by his side.
PeeWee was born April 6, 1917, to John Waldemar and Blanche Dehlin, the youngest of five children. He spent his earliest years on the family dry farm in Dehlin, Idaho. After leaving Dehlin, he spent time on Garfield Mountain, in Blaine County, where his father mined, and he attended school in Idaho Falls.
On October 31, 1939, he married Jean Mulhirin, together they had a daughter, Patricia, and a son, David. They were later divorced. On October 4, 1947, he married Betty Jane Storms, and to this union were born a son, Greg, and three daughters, Donna, Pamela, and Darla.
He worked from a young age to contribute to the family income. He delivered papers, worked at the Idaho garage, and even hitch-hiked from Idaho Falls to Texas selling neckties with a friend. While working at Challenge Creamery a driver delivering coal mentioned the Blind Bull coal mine was hiring drivers. He applied for the position, and this began a long career as a trucker. He eventually purchased his own trucks and started his own trucking business, Dehlin Transportation.
PeeWee loved the outdoors. He was a talented fly fisherman. He made fishing poles and tied his own flies. His talents also extended into shooting where he was an exceptional marksman whether using a rifle, pistol, or slingshot. His greatest love was driving. From his many road trips, jeeping in the mountain mud, and making his daily rounds in Idaho Falls, he spent much of his time behind the wheel. He had a great love for family and friends. Through his kindness and generosity many were drawn to him. He had a joy for life and loved to share that with others.
PeeWee is survived by his wife, Betty Dehlin, of Idaho Falls; sons: David (Minnie) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Greg (Terry) of Idaho Falls; daughters: Donna (Doug) Thueson of Shelley, Idaho, and Darla of Washington; 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hannah; brothers Stanley, Jeston, and Frank; two daughters, Patricia Sue and Pamela Jo, and a grandson David Lloyd York.
PeeWee's smile will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 13, at the Ucon Cemetery.
