Obituary

Algie DeWayne (Dewey) Rossiter, 81, of Idaho Falls passed away on September 12, 2008, at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living Center. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.

Dewey was born on May 16, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Alginier Rossiter and Erma Olsen Rossiter. He was the oldest of four children, followed by his sister LaDean, and two brothers, Lynn and Fred. He attended school in Salt Lake City graduating from South High in 1944. He served in the US Navy where he was trained as a radio technician. He later attended the University of Utah taking engineering courses.

He moved to Idaho Falls and worked with his father and later his brother, Lynn, at Rossiter Electric. Dewey was known by farmers and businesses throughout the upper valley for his expertise and skill in installing, repairing and consulting on all types of motors and electrical equipment. Many of the farmers in the valley would allow no one else to work on their irrigation pumps.

Dewey had many interests and hobbies throughout his life. He never accepted average success in any of his pursuits. Whether it was skiing, bowling, golf or his love of building radio controlled model airplanes, he always tried to improve his technique or performance through research, practice and observation. His greatest love was his many nieces and nephews, their friends, or any child who needed his assistance. He was always available to help with a science project, work on a motorcycle or fix anything. His quiet support and acceptance encouraged many children to try new things and confidently succeed.

He significantly influenced the lives of LaDean's children while living in their home for many years as a well loved member of the family. Dewey shared his time and his love of learning and reading with all of the children in his life. He was a wonderful teacher and guide who made math homework easy and problem solving exciting. Dewey was a patient and willing water and snow skiing instructor. He helped bait many fishing hooks and hunted, prospected, and motor cross raced with many of them. He applied his extensive mechanical knowledge to fix bikes, cars, make his nephew's motorcycles go faster and repair his model airplanes when the child flying them had a rough landing.

Dewey's life was a wonderful example of triumph over hardships and trials. He never let the significant medical challenges he faced, keep him from living and enjoying life. He always found a way to keep his spirits up and stay involved with the things and people that he loved. His love, patience, quick wit and amazing logic will be greatly missed by his family.

He is survived by his brothers; Lynn (Marian) Rossiter of Idaho Falls, and Fred (Karen) Rossiter of Ollalla, Washington and their families; LaDean's children: Scott (RaKell) Worton and Jill (John) Curtis of Idaho Falls, Laura (Reed) Snarr, Ken (Kori) Worton, and Karey (Brian) Barker of Utah and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Matt and LaDean Worton and two nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the care providers and friends who have provided such kind and loving support these past two years.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www. coltrinmortuary.com.
