Anita Barton, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at MorningStar Assisted Living. She was under the care of Enhabit Hospice.
Anita was born June 11, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lionell Aaron Garside and Isabell Mackay Garside. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from South High School in 1954. Anita continued her education at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah earning her Bachelor of Science Degree.
On June 12, 1959, she married Kay Stephen Barton in the Salt Lake City Temple. Kay passed away on October 13, 2011, after 52 years of marriage.
They lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Los Angeles, California, and then made their home in Idaho Falls. Kay's job transferred them to Beaumont, Texas for a short time until he retired and they returned to their forever home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She continued to teach Math and Science with every move. She retired from teaching in Bonneville School District #93.
Anita was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a mission for the church to Benemerito, Mexico City, Mexico from 1999-2000 with her husband.
She was the director of the National Honor Society and was in the Rigby Study Club. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines and Choralaires. She participated in Golf and Bowling Leagues. She was an amateur artist, and she enjoyed knitting and playing the piano. She loved the outdoors, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, and was a master gardener. She liked to visit Yellowstone and travel by motorcycle. Anita was a true chocolate connoisseur.
Anita was a devoted and loyal wife and mother. She adored her grandkids and great-grandkids, and they adored her. She treasured friendships, especially the "worthless Hillkerdalch Barfordson Gang" (you all know who you are!). She was always happiest being surrounded by family.
She is survived by children: Leslie Barton of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Stephen Shawn Barton (Stephanie) of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Lisa Barton Harding of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Stephanie Barton Cole (Greg) of Lindon, Utah; her sister, Barbara Garside Clarke of Orangeville, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kay Stephen Barton; her parents, Lionell and Isabella Garside; and her sisters: Janice Flanders and Patricia Pugh.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the Ucon Stake Center, 2967 East 105th North, Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2024, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
