Obituary

Anna Lorraine Sorensen Cheney, 64, passed away peacefully in her home on March 15, 2015, from complications due to multiple sclerosis. She was born March 31, 1950, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Merle James Sorensen and Paloona (Polly) May Brown Sorensen. She grew up in Blackfoot and during high school she spent a year in Rigby and a year in Mesa, Arizona. She graduated as a Valedictorian from Blackfoot High School in 1968. She attended Brigham Young University and it was there she met Dennis Ray Cheney of Burley, Idaho. On June 14, 1969, they were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. In 1974, they moved to Bountiful, Utah and in 1990, they moved to Idaho Falls. Anna was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many different callings throughout her life. She was a gifted teacher and her calling as a stake missionary in her Utah ward was one of her favorites. She was a faithful visiting teacher and loved to do family history work. She loved to shop and made many friends throughout Idaho Falls. Before her illness, she was very active and loved to take walks, swim, snowmobile and water ski. She was a talented seamstress and loved to read, dance, and make up silly little songs. Anna's greatest desire was to be a mother. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. The illness created unpredictable challenges, but she found inner strength to meet each of them. She is survived by her spouse,Dennis Cheney; children: Aleisha (Dan) Stout of Idaho Falls; Bonnie (Derick) Siddoway of Bountiful; Jennie (Bryan) Hunt of Burley; Roger (Jennifer) Cheney of Kuwait City, Kuwait; Russell (Meggie) Cheney of Grapevine, Texas; Laura (Brent) Robinson of Mesa, Arizona; Anne (Michael) Schultz of Aurora, Colorado; Mark (Carolyn) Cheney of San Antonio, Texas; Michelle (Kerry) Christensen of Beavercreek, Ohio; and Angela Cheney serving in the Arizona Tempe Mission; siblings: David Sorensen of Austin, Texas; Polly Ward of Salt Lake City; Phillip Sorensen of Idaho Falls; Lenore Jensen of Pinegree, Idaho, and Peter Sorensen of Heber City, Utah; and 33 grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Randolph (Randy) James Sorensen. The family would like to express their thanks to the many volunteers, ward members, and hospice workers who helped during the past few months. All were Anna's Angels and she appreciated the help of each one. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at the Idaho Falls LDS 19th Ward, 3370 N. 5th W., with Bishop Gregg Baczuk officiating.
