IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Annette Rae
Drewes
February 7, 1947 – March 16, 2009
She was born 7 February 1947, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Willis Nathan Fluke and Alta(Leigh) Fluke. She grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in the class of 1965.
She attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, and majored in Home Economics. She graduated from Excelsior College Albany, New York, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts.
Throughout her adult life she took many college classes just for the fun of it and enjoyed learning but most of all, it was the people that she met and got to know that made it fun. She also graduated from the Eastern Idaho Technical College marketing program. She took numerous awards in the various marketing competitions. Marketing is what she loved to do best.
She married Kenneth (Kenhi) Drewes, a navy submariner, on 15 July 1967, in Idaho Falls, ID. She moved to Charleston Heights, SC, where he was stationed and had a home. Later they returned to Idaho Falls, ID to raise their family.
She leaves behind her husband; Kenhi Drewes CDR. USN (ret.); a daughter Britt Drewes-Conley (Jamie Conley) of Idaho Falls, ID; a son, Corey Drewes of Boise, ID, and her father, Willis Fluke of Idaho Falls, ID. Also surviving are her two brothers Bill (Dorothy) Fluke and Richard (Ingrid) Fluke, both of Arlee, MT.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Nichole Paige Drewes, her mother, Alta Fluke, and her sister, Michelle Fluke.
Annette actively enjoyed her family and took great pride in their activities and accomplishments. She enjoyed creativity and many "projects" with her family. She enjoyed celebrating every day joys and holidays and was well known for her festive decorations, flamingos and her red white and blue 4th of July salads.
Annette was involved in various businesses and community activities. In the 1970's she wrote a syndicated cooking column for a number of eastern Idaho newspapers. Her businesses through the years included Fancy's Frames, Fancy's Art Classes, and the Rubber Stamp Vamp. She really enjoyed marketing and she also sold educational toys, beauty products, and jewelry. She was also a marketer for Super 8 Motel and enjoyed the travel industry very much. She knew many people around the community due to both her business interests and her activities with the Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce, and the EITC Foundation. She was active in 4-H in her youth and was a National 4-H trip winner to Chicago in 1965. Later, she worked as the Bonneville County 4-H program assistant and as a nutrition aide with the University Of Idaho extension service.
She was an active spinner and knitter. She enjoyed making "Project Linus" quilts for kids in distress and was active in the local Shawl Ministry. She was also proud to be one of the famous group of ladies that were forever banned from the Idaho Falls Barnes and Noble bookstore because they pushed the tables together in the coffee area and talked while knitting. She then adopted the manta- Live your life out loud- avoid people that are like finger nails on the blackboard, as they are hazardous to your health.
She always had a positive attitude and an infectious smile. Annette was most often seen with her dog Cody, surrounded by friends and laughing. She had a happy laugh that could penetrate cinder-block walls and she was easy to find in a crowd.
She loved to see the odd roadside attractions on the old highways when on her road trips. Her latest travels took her to the world's largest ball of sisal twine and sluicing for gems. Frequent vacations of "condo camping" and cruises were her joy. Quiet times and fond memories were found in time spent at home in Idaho Falls, Driggs, Heise or Jackson, WY with her family. She often said of her vacations that she was "spoiled by over indulging on the smorgasbord of life and travel".
In lieu of flowers, those who might wish to donate to a charity please consider any humane animal society branch or the local "Project Linus" (c/o-Brady's of Idaho Falls or
