He was born September 18, 1942, in Butte, to Arne Edwin Rautio Sr. and Irene Northey Rautio. He spent the first four years in Fairbanks, Alaska and then at the age of 5 he moved back to Butte. In 1961, he graduated from Butte High School and spent a short time in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves. He earned an associate degree from American Computer Institute. In 1992, he moved to California and in 1994, he moved back to Butte where he was residing at the time of his death.
On Oct. 9th, 1962, he married Janice Hamel in Coeur d'Alene. They later divorced. He worked in the mines until 1977. He worked at the Montana State Prison as a Correctional Officer from 1978 to 1983. For the last 13 years, he worked as the head ticket taker at the Butte Civic Center. He enjoyed officiating football and basketball games.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He loved fishing, hunting, and sports, especially football and basketball. Arne was known as a quiet, gentle giant type of a man with a big heart. Arne had a great love for the outdoors, sporting events, and especially his family including his former wife, the mother of his children.
He is survived by his former wife, Janice Hamel Chapin of Post Falls, ID; sons; Craig Andrew Rautio; Mark Arne (Joyce) Rautio both of Butte; Darrell Allen Rautio of Airway Heights, Washington; sisters; Luanne Seegar of Redding, California and Donna Nettleton of St. George, UT; brother, Don Rautio; granddaughters; Brittany (Robert) Gee of Middleton, ID; Tiffany (William Graves) Rautio of Middleton, ID; Whitley and Mallory Rautio both of Butte; Kayla Rautio of Portland, OR; grandsons; Bryce and Thad Rautio of Salem, OR; great-grandsons: Austen Gee and Samara Gee of Middleton, ID; and Noah James Rautio of Portland, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Butte.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice, the YMCA, the Marine Corp Sub for Santa, or to Our Lady of the Rockies.
