IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arthur Thomas
Davis
August 26, 1931 – July 23, 2017
Arthur Thomas Davis passed away quietly Sunday, July 23, 2017, in Roswell, New Mexico, at the age of 85. He will be dearly missed.
Born August 26, 1931, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Jim and Linda Davis, he spent his youth in Iona and graduated from Iona High School in 1950. He was drafted into the Army for the Korean War to serve as a railroad mechanic. During a three-week travel period after boot camp, he married his high school sweetheart, Carroll Pitcher, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 14, 1951. Following his military service, Art and Carroll bought a small farm in Clark — near Rigby and Ririe — where he worked for Idaho Fresh Pak as a foreman before earning promotion to potato buyer. In 1987, they sold their home in Clark and returned to Iona. Art retired in 1995 with over 30 years at Fresh Pak. Last year, in 2016, he and Carroll left Idaho for Roswell, New Mexico, to be closer to family.
Art had many interests: he loved sports, hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. Many Saturday nights were spent bowling in the Iona League and he enjoyed being a member of the Iona Posse. But his favored summer pastime was attending rodeos: his favorite was attending the National Finals in Oklahoma City. When he took up the sport of golf, he traded in his cowboy hat for a ball cap, and eventually he gave up his cowboy boots in favor of more comfortable tennis shoes. After he retired he began making a variety of wooden projects for family and friends in a carpentry shop he built in his backyard. Never entirely satisfied with his work, he would comment how he would build it differently next time.
He is survived by his wife, Carroll; four children: James A. Davis (wife, Debbianne) of Orem, Utah; Kathy Willis (husband, Barry Willis) of Roseville, California; Phil George Davis (wife, Wendolyn) of Roswell, New Mexico; Kari Ann Kimball (husband, L. Steven Kimball) of St. George, Utah; seventeen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Louella Davis and Eva Stanger, and a brother, Bill Davis.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017, at the Iona LDS Stake Center, 7555 North 55th East.
