Barbara G. Jensen, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. She was under the care of Encompass Home Health and Hospice.
Barbara was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on April 24, 1935, to Paul and Mina Frasure Akers. She grew up in the Wapello area and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1953.
On April 4, 1954, she married her lifetime love, Jay W. Jensen, in Blackfoot at the First Baptist Church. During their early marriage, Barbara and Jay lived in Mountain Home, Mud Lake, Highland Falls, New York and Alexandria, Virginia before settling in Idaho Falls in 1959.
She enjoyed taking care of her family, actively participating in Bible Studies, American Baptist Women service activities, and civic groups such as Extension Club.
Barbara worked at the Red Balloon Gift Shop and as an assistant manager at Pykettes.
She was a Christian, life-long Baptist, and most recently attended Watersprings Calvary Chapel.
Barbara enjoyed helping with the construction and decorating of new homes built with her husband, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, oil painting, tea parties, vacations with her husband and siblings, shopping, and camping. Barbara was a wonderful wife, loving mother, compassionate listener, and prayer warrior.
She is survived by her husband, Jay; daughters: Kristi (Rod) Thompson of Rigby and Staci (Kelley) Hart of Idaho Falls; four grandchildren: Jeremy, Shalee, C. J. and Morgann; five great-grandchildren: Rhett, Saige, Kizer, Quinn and Andre; and siblings: Jeanne Jensen, Dave, Steve and Mike Akers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gayle Akers, and sister, Patti Clark
Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018, at 12:00 (noon) at Fielding Memorial. An open house following at Jay and Barbara's home. Family and friends are invited to share memories and celebrate Barbara's joy in being home with her Lord, Jesus.
