Obituary

Barbara Ann Kalferd Cobbley, 94, of Idaho Falls died Friday, March 9, 2012 at her home under the loving care of her niece, Marion Peterson, and Hospice of Eastern Idaho. She was born May 19, 1917, in Lower Presto near Firth, Idaho, to Peter Kalferd and Bessie Bartausky Kalferd, immigrants from Lithuania. She graduated from Firth High School in 1935. On May 18, 1940, she married Alfred Paul Cobbley in Pocatello, Idaho. Paul passed away after 46 wonderful years together before his death in 1986. Barbara and Paul farmed near Firth and Barbara worked in the grocery store, she also delivered mail on a rural route during World War II. In 1950, they moved to Idaho Falls. Barbara worked in the Sweet Briar Dress Shop and as a telephone operator from 1952-1979 when they still said, "Number Please". She retired from there after 27 years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She volunteered at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for 14 years, was a member of the BPOE Does for 20 years and a member of the retired Telephone Pioneers. Barbara enjoyed ceramics and crocheting and always had a beautiful garden and she was always there to help anyone in need. Barbara and Paul had no children of their own but many nieces and nephews thought of them as second parents. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Ed Kalferd; Josephine Worthan; Frank Kalferd, and Stella Peterson. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at the Idaho Falls LDS Stake Center, 1155 First St.. The family will visit with friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Burial will be in Blackfoot at the Grove City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday following services. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 1st Street, Idaho Falls, and condolences may be sent to the family online at www.coltrinmortuary.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to hospice of Eastern Idaho, 1810 Moran St., Idaho Falls, ID 83401.
