Obituary

Ben Albert Frei, 80, of Ammon, ID, died Wednesday evening, February 29, 2012 at the Gables of Ammon. He died peacefully while resting during a walk with his physical therapist. He was born September 17, 1931, in Rexburg, ID to Albert Herman Frei and Martha Blende Fife. He graduated from Marsing High School and moved to Idaho Falls, ID to work. It was in Idaho Falls where he met his sweetheart, Mona Nadine Ricks. They were sealed for time and all eternity on April 30, 1952, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. He gave a lifetime of service to his family and church. He was a selfless and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a hard working and humble man. His primary employment was working at Challenge Dairy. Additionally, he spent many years as a part time janitor. He was an avid scouter, playing a prominent role with a scout troop for people with special needs (including his youngest son Aaron). He was a recipient of the Sliver Beaver award for this service. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his twelve children; daughters, Judy Infanger (Tom), Peggy Cress (Dale), Carol Hatch (Ron), Kathy Holverson (Blaine) and Ruth DeLand all of Idaho Falls, ID, and Amy Jones (Randall) of Pleasant Grove, UT; sons, Ben Wendell Frei (Aurelia) of Provo, UT, Michael Frei of Sacramento, CA, Kent Frei (Tanya) of Snowflake, AZ, John Frei (Diane) of Burlington, NC, Scott Frei (Jana) of Rochester, MN, and Aaron Frei of Ammon, ID; sisters, Nola Carlson of Chicago, Il, Ilene Wood (Arval) and Bernice Wadsworth (Sam) of Pocatello, ID; 64 grandchildren; and 59+ great-grandchildren. Ben was preceded in death by his wife Mona, his parents, his 4 brothers (Ted Martin, Harry, Ralph, and Tim), and 3 grandchildren (Stephanie Cress, Christopher DeLand, and Kade Frei). The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Ammon LDS Stake Center, 2055 S. Ammon Road, with Bishop Ryan Kohler officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls, and 9-10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church prior to the funeral.
