IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Jane
Dehlin
September 15, 1929 – July 14, 2022
Betty Jane Dehlin, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, at her home. She was surrounded by family and under the care of Enhabit Hospice.
Betty was born September 15, 1929, to Elmer Ray Storms and Beatrice Florence Amy Jones Storms, in Idaho Falls. She was the third of six children. She attended school in Idaho Falls.
Her early years were spent on a farm in Osgood, with her brother, John, and her sister, Barbara. She spent many hours outside enjoying the farm life. Her favorite memory was when the pig went under the barbed wire fence with John on its back. The pig went under, and John did not.
Her family moved to Idaho Falls where her father built a one-room home and a service station. Betty learned the value of hard work as she pumped gas, sold candy bars, and helped with household chores. This is where she learned to love the task of ironing. Everyone who knew Betty knew that she ironed everything.
On October 4, 1947, she married Alden 'Peewee' Dehlin. Together, they made their home in Idaho Falls and raised three children. Betty was devastated when her Little Pamela Jo passed away at four months old due to a heart condition.
Betty worked for Idaho Falls School District and at local grocery stores demoing food. However, her true happiness came when she was gardening, and she found the perfect job when she started working at Sunnyside Gardens where she worked for many years and the owners, the McCrackens, became like family.
She served as a 4-H leader and PTA president. She considered her neighbor's family and spent a lot of time serving them. Betty had an independent spirit and could be quite stubborn. She taught others the value of hard work and perseverance.
Betty had a green thumb. She loved gardening and raising the most beautiful flowers. You could not leave her yard without a tour and a detailed story about each of the plants she was currently nurturing.
Betty was loved by her parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had many friends that preceded her in death and that she has missed for many years.
Betty is survived by her children: Donna (Doug) Thueson of Shelley, Greg (Terry) of Idaho Falls, Darla of Washington, and David (Minnie) of Corpus Christie, Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Pamela Jo, and daughter Patricia Sue Dodd.
A graveside service will be held Monday, July 18, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at the Ucon Cemetery, where she will be interred. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com .
The family would like to thank Dr. Baker and his team at Baker Family Practice and the staff at Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion shown for Betty. In lieu of flowers please go iron your clothes, sit back, drink a coke, eat some chocolate, and do not forget to smell the roses.
