She was born October 26, 1926, in Denton, Montana, to Travers O. Barber and Edna Wise Barber. She grew up in Denton, and graduated from Denton High School in 1943. She attended Great Falls Commercial College. She worked for Western School Supply in Great Falls.
On July 24, 1945, she married Glenis Nels Omanson in Lewistown, Montana. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 19, 1950. They lived in Lewistown until 1957 when they moved to Idaho Falls. In 1978, they moved to Hailey and in 2003, they returned to Idaho Falls. He died Oct. 30, 2007.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including Relief Society and Primary Presidents, and as a secretary at the Idaho Falls Temple.
She participated in various community musical productions and she sang in a female Barbershop Group for many years. She worked at election polling places for over 20 years.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, playing the piano and organ, and aerobics. She loved all types of music, genealogy, temple work, and spending time with friends and family. Betty's life of selfless service to her family, friends, church, and community was an example to all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Lyle (Arn) Omanson of Louisville, Kentucky;a daughter, Cherie (Randal) Priest of Ainsworth, Nebraska; a son, Lynn (Valerie) Omanson of Idaho Falls; a daughter, Nancy (Farren) Davis of Idaho Falls; a son, Jay (Julie) Omanson of Parker, Colorado; a brother, William "Bill" (Dora) Barber of Ft. Collins, Colorado; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Omanson; 7 brothers: Leonal, John, Gerald, Robert, Marvin, Donald, and Kenneth Barber; a sister, Burnetta Brady; and a grandson, Michael Adam Davis.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the Ammon 23rd LDS Ward, 4030 John Adams Parkway. The family will visit with friends 7-9:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2008, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. and Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
