William Arthur Empey, 76, of Shelley passed away, with his family around him, on Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home. He was born August 30, 1937, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the son of Arthur Phillip Empey and Edna Day Empey. He grew up in Idaho Falls. In 1955, he graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He earned an Associate's Degree from Ricks College, and then did a five years apprenticeship through Local 648, the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He was a member of the local union for over fifty years. Bill worked on the Alaskan Pipeline from 1973 to 1975, and then continued working throughout the United States in his trade. He worked about ten years for the Greenfield Water Board. Besides living in Shelley, Bill and his family lived in Ammon and Idaho Falls. Bill was married twice prior to his marriage on June 9, 1980, to Carla Fae Adams in Reno, Nevada. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was currently a member of the Mountain Ward in Shelley. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, football, doing yardwork, riding and breaking horses, horse racing and traveling. Bill expressed his feelings for his wife and children by saying with a grin on his face, "I would not trade you for the best while Jack-ass in town." Bill is survived by the following: wife, Carla Empey of Shelley; daughters: Roni (Kyle) Searle of Idaho Falls; Katrina (Dan) Hunt of Ammon; and Sara Empey of Idaho Falls; sons: Danny (Amy) Empey, Don (Cindy) Empey both of Idaho Falls; Michael (Amy) Empey of South Jordan, Utah; and Lance Empey of Idaho Falls; 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parent, and brothers: Keith and Larry, and sisters, May and Myrna. Funeral services will be at 12 Noon Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls with Bishop Casey Huntsman officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014, at the mortuary and from11 a.m. until time of services all at the mortuary.
