Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather returned to his Heavenly Father August 9th, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Blaire "Bud" Gene Nelson was born to Ralph Nelson and Donna Price Nelson on August 25, 1920,in Palmyra, UT. He spent his childhood in the Salt Lake City area where he enjoyed working along side his dad and brothers racing open wheeled cars. He built his first crystal radio set which led to a lifelong love of amateur radio. He attended West High in Salt Lake City. He joined the Navy in 1943 and proudly served his country during WWII. Bud married the love of his life, Donna Obenchain, on December 24, 1943. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls temple in 1993. Bud and Donna were blessed with four beautiful girls whom he was very proud of. They moved their family to Idaho Falls where he worked for KIFI Radio and was very instrumental in putting channel 8 TV on the air. In 1952, Bud went to work for the INL. He retired there in 1986. He got his first amateur radio license in April 1938. He loved talking to people and collected QSL cards from around the world. He was proudly known as W7QAN for more than 76 years. Before Blaire lost his eyesight he loved to photograph wildflowers and traveled any dirt road he could to locate different species. He also installed the first TV in Stanley, Idaho. He was preceeded in death by his father Ralph, mother Donna, Brother Harold, twin sister Alaire, two son-in-laws DeWayne Woolf and Dave Moffitt, and twin great grandsons Kaden and Jaden Taylor. He is survived by his wife Donna of Idaho Falls, daughters Joey (Jim) Price of Silverdale, WA, Vicki Moffitt of Idaho Falls, Doni Woolf of Beaver Dam, AZ, Geri (Danny) McCurdy of Tooele, UT, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; brothers: Donald Nelson of Ontario, Oregon, Jerald (Dixie) Nelson and Noel (Shirley) Nelson both of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Daryl (Peggy) Nelson of Santa Marguerita, California. He spent his life in service to his family and left a great legacy of love for us all to follow. Funeral services will be held at the Idaho Falls 11th Ward, 1235 Juniper Dr, Idaho Falls, ID on Saturday, August 16th, 2014 at 2:00 pm. The family will visit with friends and relatives an hour prior to the services. Interment will be at the Ammon North Cemetery.
