She was born October 24, 1911, in Sugar City, Idaho, to Leo and Florence Gilchrist Jacobs. She grew up in Sugar City and graduated from Sugar Salem High School in 1930.

She received a Bachelors of Arts from Fresno State University, a teaching degree from Ricks College and attended USC.

She is survived by the following: sister, Lillie J. Fitzsimons of Layton, Utah; 100's of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews

She is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Roy, Ben, Bruce, Merlin, Sid and Willis; and two sisters, Arema and LaPreal.
