Obituary

A man who left an Amazing Legacy, Robert L. (Bob) Longhurst, 86, of Idaho Falls, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, with his family by his side.  Bob started his journey on September 2, 1930, to Benjamin Frank and Mary Ellen Longhurst.  Bob was the youngest of six children, and was a blessing to his family, friends, and everyone he met touching their lives.  With a wonderful childhood of working on a farm and farming with his Dad learning the meaning of an honest day work and a handshake is a man's word. He loved riding horses and they continued to be a big part of his life. He attended schools in Iona and was on the basketball team for the Iona High School.

Bob met the love of his life, Verda Lewis, and were married on June 2, 1950, the true love story began and stayed strong for 67 years. Their valued accomplishments are their children, blessed with 5 Sons and 2 daughters, they raised their family on the family farm in Iona.  Bob was a man who loved life, loved to dance. Enjoyed farming the land with his John Deere Tractor, raising cattle and sheep. He loved going to the cattle auctions at the Idaho Falls stock yards and the bull sales in Montana.  Bob loved traveling, camping, and fishing. He drove livestock truck for Gale Storer.  Owned his own livestock Company Robert L. Longhurst and Sons Trucking.  Bus driver for the INL for 33 years earning million-mile award accident free and continued to million 1/2 miles until he retired.

Bob and his wife Verda inspired and influenced so many people with their example of life, love, commitment, dedication to each other and their family.

He is survived by his wife, Verda Lewis Longhurst, his daughters: Julie (Dennis) Jennings, of Prescott, AZ, Debra (Robert) Suitter, his sons: Frank (Sherri) Longhust, Steve (Debbie) Longhurst, Richard (Laurie)  Longhurst, Gale Longhurst, and Redge  (Debbie) Longhurst, all of Idaho Falls, ID; blessed with 13 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Ellen Longhurst; three brothers: Glen, Eddie, Jay; and two sisters: Maxine Meadows, and Bernice Stosich

Our heartfelt Thanks to family, friends and all those who have touched the life of Bob, his legacy shall continue and he will be forever in our thoughts, in our words and in our hearts.

The family is honoring his life with family and friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday March 27, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 28, at Iona LDS 8th Ward Chapel, 4459 John Adams Parkway, Idaho Falls with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral services.   Interment will be at the Iona Cemetery.
