Obituary

Bonnie Jean Petersen, 75, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Good Samaritan, Helping Hands Unit of natural causes.

She was born March 28, 1934, to Oscar I. Shepherd and Phylin Simmons Shepherd in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. She grew up in Mt. Pleasant, Moroni, Chester, and Sunnyside, Utah. She selflessly helped raise her siblings while her mother worked and became like a second mother to them.

On May 21, 1952, she married Gail Richard "Pete" Petersen in Shelley. He passed away Sept. 1, 1992. Among the other places she lived were Shelley, Idaho; Bremerton, Washington; and Idaho Falls.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed doing crafts, making cookies and was known for her delicious divinity. She was an avid people watcher.

Bonnie was a devoted, selfless and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knocked on her door.

Survivors include the following: daughters: Linda Petersen (John Lee) of Boise; Debra Jean (David Johnson) Peterson of Idaho Falls; Cindy (Joe) Oelbracht of Madison, Ohio; and Jochlyn (Ralph) Caughie of Casper, Wyoming; a son, Richard (Lisa) Petersen of Idaho Falls;; mother, Phylin Simpkins of Idaho Falls; brothers: McCoy (Patty) Shepherd of Ontario, Oregon; Bud (Kathy) Shepherd of Iona; and Steven Simpkins of Idaho Falls; sisters: Sondra (Leo) Gaitan of Independence, Oregon; Karen and Carma Shepherd both of Idaho Falls; Terri (Jeff) Wright of West Valley, Utah; Moneta Fritz of Bluffdale, Utah; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, her father, a brother, Gary Shepherd; and a granddaughter, Candy Wilde.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 7, 2009, at the LDS Church, 395 2nd Street, Idaho Falls, with Bishop Larry Haws officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be at the Shelley-Hillcrest Cemetery.
