Boyd Irvin Stallings, 87, of Blackfoot, passed away September 20, at the Emerald House in Blackfoot, Idaho. He was born March 5, 1927, in Lewisville, Idaho, the son of Irvin S. and Iva Lords Stallings. He attended schools in Lewisville and graduated from Midway High School in 1945. He was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Navy in San Diego, California. He was a talented singer, and was very active in football, basketball, and boxing. While serving in the Navy, his basketball team won the championship over 200 other teams. He played basketball for Ricks College. He had a great voice for radio and announced for KID in Idaho Falls, KSEI in Pocatello, KRXK in Rexburg, and KAYT in Rupert. He married Merle Rigby Nov. 17, 1948, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. In 1955, he and his family moved to Rupert, Idaho, where he homesteaded 150 acres. He and his wife bought two additional farms and both taught school. In l969, they moved to Blackfoot where they have farmed, raised livestock, and taught school. Boyd served as principal at Wapello, Irving, Pingree and Rockford Elementary Schools. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Utah State University in 1968 and a Master's Degree of Education from Idaho State University in l973. He started a successful livestock business called Western Livestock while in Rupert. Later, he purchased and operated State Recovery, a repossession business, in Blackfoot. He was an active member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and served in many callings. In 1991, he and his wife served a mission for the church in the New York, New York North Mission, and several years as officiators in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel, a wonderful sense of humor, a constant desire to bring out the best in others, and a great love for his wife and family. Survivors include his wife, Merle; two sons: Craig B. (Laurie), and Richard R. (Eilene),all of Blackfoot; four daughters: Nancy (Paul) Coltrin, Idaho Falls, Judy (Sam) Terry, St. George, UT, Ranae (Bob) Black, Pleasant Grove, UT, and Robyn (Tony) Fields, West Palm Beach, FL; 33 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren; siblings: Myrna Stoddart of Idaho Falls, Jylene Morgan of Blackfoot, and Sherril (Shirley) Stallings of Burley. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center, 900 Riverton, Blackfoot, Idaho, by Bishop Cleon Chapman. The family will meet with friends on Friday, September 26, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and also an hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at the Groveland Cemetery, where the American Legion Stewart Hoover Post 23 and the Idaho Military Honor Guard will present the flag.
