IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brent Alvin
Bird
November 28, 1949 – August 5, 2025
Brent Alvin Bird, 75, passed away on August 5, 2025, at his home in Idaho Falls, ID, surrounded by his devoted wife, Kathy Bird, and many loving family members.
Born in Rigby, Idaho, on November 28, 1949, he was raised in the evening shadow of the Lemhi Mountains at Monteview. Brent was the oldest of eight children and graduated from West Jefferson High School in Terreton, Idaho. He pursued higher education at Idaho State University, where he earned his teaching degree, followed by a Master's in Education Administration from Brigham Young University.
Brent's career as an educator and school administrator spanned many years. He ended his career as the principal of Iona Elementary, where the children thought of him as grandpa. Throughout his years in School District 93, he was deeply respected for his passion for education and his unwavering commitment to the children, families, and teachers he served.
An avid student of local history, Brent had an exceptional knowledge of Idaho's rich cultural heritage. He was passionate about sharing this with his family and friends. He led many "expeditions" where he introduced his children, grandchildren, and loved ones to the land's Native American culture, authentic artifacts, and stories. His love for history was matched only by his love for his family. His most cherished titles were Dad, Papa, and Grandpa. Brent delighted in creating special moments with his grandchildren, whether through imaginative backyard adventures, elaborate train sets, or tea parties with his granddaughters. Known as the "Baby Whisperer," he had an innate gift for making each child feel truly loved and valued. His legacy is one of unconditional love, acceptance, and guidance.
Brent was a faithful servant of the Lord. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in numerous leadership roles throughout his life, both locally and internationally. He and his wife, Kathy, served three missions together: in the West Indies, China, and Poland. Brent was a living testament to the teachings of Jesus Christ, sharing his testimony with everyone he met through his example of kindness, humility, and a life well-lived.
Brent is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Bird; his eight children from his marriage to Eileen Adkins: Michael (Wendy Hess), Laura (Kurtis Knudsen), Robert, Daniel (Teresa Duncan), Mathew (Michelle Weaver), Julie (Jack Briggs), Rebecca (Ted Stillman), and Richard (Mahalia Jones). He also embraced Kathy's children as his own: Jason (Karen) Donnelly, Jay Donnelly, Kim (Kevin) O'Neill, Krista (Paul) Moody, Katrina (Justin) Turley, and Kaley (Brady) Maddox. Brent's legacy lives on in his 56 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, with three new great-grandbabies expected this year. He is also survived by his seven siblings: Betty (Darwin) McKay, Jere (Neil) Harris, Kim (Carla) Bird, Layne (Brenda) Bird, Ron (Denise) Bird, Jana (Sean) Tarbet, and Alan (Jodie) Bird.
Brent was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Shirley Bird.
Brent's life was marked by deep faith, love for his family, and a commitment to the service of others. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
