Obituary

With gratitude for the years we had with Brent Ray Stevenson we mourn the passing on November 16, 2016, of our father, "Bampa", brother, uncle and friend.  We are joyful that he is now well and without pain and discomfort.

Brent was born and grew up in Idaho Falls, ID, on August 14, 1944, to Evan Glen and Camille Osborn Stevenson.  He was welcomed as the last of six children.  His three brothers and two sisters love their little brother and were very happy he was theirs.

He attended Riverside Elementary, O. E. Bell Jr. High, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School where he served as President of the DECA Club.  He then attended Utah State University receiving a degree in Social Services with a minor in Business in 1970.

He loved to dance and won many college dance contests.  After his first year at USU, he served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii for the Auwailolimu Ward in Honolulu.  There he made life-long friends and very recently had visited those dear friends on a vacation to the island.  If you wanted to give him great joy, all you had to do was have a luau and play Hawaiian music.

Brent treasured his friends and several are friends to this day.  He would be the first to offer a hand or make someone's day better.  He loved to entertain and was known for preparing amazing Asian dishes.  It was not uncommon for him to prepare Korean Barbecue or Sukiyaki in celebration of a birthday.  In fact, these dishes were so popular the recipes where published in charity cookbooks, with one having a complimentary introduction by the husband of the Governor of Nebraska.

Brent married Victoria Siqueiros on August 25, 1967, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  They later divorced.  They were blessed with three sons:  Todd (Gina); Tyson; and Ryan (Allison).  He loved his family and delighted in his grandchildren:  Connor (Serena), Creighton, Trenton, Colton and Sophie, and great-grandson, Hudson - they lovingly call him "Bampa".

He and Vickie moved to Nebraska where Brent worked in a variety of roles serving the state of Nebraska and its university system.  Brent shared many fond memories from his time as the Director of Administrative Services serving under Governor Thone.  However, he was most proud of his service to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the role of Hospital Administrator and Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance.  After spending several years in Lincoln and Omaha, Brent accepted a position as Vice Chancellor of the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.  Brent would spend many years in San Francisco before relocating back to Idaho Falls to be near family.

He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty Lou and Vernon Priest; brother, Evan Noel and Jean Stevenson; and brothers, Richard Glen Stevenson, and Jerry Lee Stevenson.  He is survived by his sister, Joanne Kapp, Sandy, UT, and sister-in-laws, Illona Stevenson, Ogden, UT and Ann Stevenson, Phoenix, AZ.

During the final weeks of Brent's life, he was cared for by his niece and her husband, Lori and John Lundblade and was often visited by his grandson, Connor and his family.  The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nursing staff of Mountain View Hospital and Brent's doctors:  Dr. Taylor, Dr. Black, Dr. West, and Dr. Nathan for their compassionate care.  His final days were spent at the Hospice of Eastern Idaho's Hospice House, an organization dear to Brent's heart where he volunteered for several years.

A private service will be scheduled at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family would kindly ask for donations to be made in Brent's memory to Hospice of Eastern Idaho at 1810 Moran St., Idaho Falls, ID  83401.
