Brooke Bullock Snyder, 70, of Idaho Falls passed away July 8, 2011 at her home due to cancer. She was surrounded by her entire family who will miss her gentle spirit and loving nature very much. Brooke was born May 31, 1941, to Richard and Marjorie Fenderson Bullock and was raised in Wrentham, Massachusetts. She graduated from Wrentham High School in 1957 at the age of 16 due to having skipped two grades in elementary school. Brooke attended Dean Jr. College in Franklin, Massachusetts for two years before transferring to the University of Chicago where she obtained her Bachelor's of Humanities Degree, and graduated in 1963 with a Master's Degree in Library Science. While attending University of Chicago, Brooke met her life-long friend, partner, and future husband, Roger Wayne Snyder, of Mankato, Minnesota. They were married August 17, 1963 at the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham. They then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where Roger worked as an engineer for NASA while Brooke worked for Lakewood Public Library as a school librarian. Brooke later attended Idaho State University in 1978 to obtain her teacher's certificate and she volunteered in her children's schools as a library aide. From 1982-85 Brooke worked as Office Manager for Stylo Software, Inc. owned by her husband. In 1985 she was hired by the City of Idaho Falls Public Library as the Head of the Children's Department. Books were a life-long passion, and she loved any opportunity to open up that world to young new readers. Brooke was especially sympathetic to Idaho Falls' growing Hispanic community, and worked hard to assemble a fine collection of Spanish-language books within the Children's Department. She remained in that position for 16 years, retiring in 2001. Brooke loved to travel and experience new places. She would spend many happy months planning and researching each new destination. She and Roger traveled to Europe in 1968 where they spent a month traveling around Holland and Germany, including Berlin, which was not an easy place to go at that time. Two years later they began planning for their first major adventure - to move to Huehuetenango, Guatemala, where Brooke's brother, Richard Ward Bullock, had been working with the Peace Corp. She and Roger learned Spanish, hooked up their travel trailer, and relocated their young family to Central America from 1972 - 1976. There Roger co-owned two grocery stores and a poultry farm. Returning to the United States, they lived briefly in Houston, Texas prior to moving to Idaho Falls in December 1976 where Roger had accepted a position with EG&G at the INEL. Over the years she traveled to many locations throughout the world, especially to Europe to visit her daughter Kimberly's family which spent 13 years stationed there with the US Air Force. Brooke became an avid sports fan later in life, especially basketball, baseball, and the Olympics. To the amusement of her now grown children, she could knowledgably converse about the seasons and players of the Red Sox, Celtics, Spurs, and Jazz. Brooke was a founding member of Christ Community Church in 1977, and attended the church for 34 years. Her friendliness and kindness welcomed many newcomers with spur-of-the-moment invitations to after-church lunches. She was an inspiration to many by the way she quietly led by example and never judged anyone. Brooke's family would like to thank the many members of Christ Community Church for their sincere and unfailing support and friendship, especially during these last several months. Brooke is survived by her husband of 48 years, Roger Snyder, and her three children, Kimberly (Layne) Nelson of Navarre, Florida, and Lorena (Brandy) Corgatelli, and David (Debbie) Snyder, both of Idaho Falls. She has six precious grandchildren, Taylor and Jacob Nelson, and Rebecca, Jordan, Isaac, and Abigail Corgatelli. She is also survived by her brother Richard Ward (Anita) Bullock of Springville, Utah and her sister Jacqueline Wildes of Mashpee, Massachusetts. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 15th at 6:30 PM at Christ Community Church, 5742 S. 5th West (Park Road), with Mr. Mike Ghiglia officiating. The family will meet with friends following the service at the church.
