Obituary

Burdett Lords, 86, of Idaho Falls, died Thursday, September 3, 2009, at his home. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice. He was born April 17, 1923, in Idaho Falls to Robert J. and Lillian Mae Bowcutt Lords. As a young boy he lived in El Centro, California. The family moved back to Idaho and Burdett grew up in Lincoln and Idaho Falls. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Burdett served 4 years in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Clara Dora Jolley on June 28, 1945, in San Diego, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 28, 1946. He worked in refrigeration for the Union Pacific Railroad, and worked as a salesman for an auto parts business. He then started his own business, Lords Auto Supply, which he maintained for 40 years until retirement. Burdett was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as secretary of the High Priest Group, Scoutmaster, Assistant Explorer Leader, a stake missionary, financial clerk, and Young Men's President. He was a member of the Idaho Falls Lions Club, coached youth football, and Little League Baseball. Burdett loved fishing, camping, woodworking, golfing, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He never missed a sporting event that involved his boys. Survivors include his wife Clara Dora Jolley of Idaho Falls; 3 sons, Randy Burdett (Dauphne) of Idaho Falls; Steven Craig (Kathy) of Idaho Falls; and Deric (Deborah) of Brea, California; a brother, Duane (Zenda) of Idaho Falls; 14 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert John Lords; mother, Lillian Mae Bowcutt; brother, Robert Farrer; sister, Beth Ball; sister, Joy Nelson; and a great-grandson, Tyson Lords. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Parkview Ward LDS Chapel, 2051 S. Emerson Ave., Idaho Falls with Bishop Brad Backman officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 7, 2009 at 6-8:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow at Fielding Memorial Park in Idaho Falls where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
