Obituary

C. Jay Longhurst, 83, of Iona, passed away April 4, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of complications following a stroke. He was born October 7, 1928, in Iona, Idaho, to Frank Longhurst and Mary Ellen Owens Longhurst. He grew up in Iona and in 1946; he graduated from Iona High School. On October 27, 1950, he married Marjorie Shaw in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Marjorie passed away July 5, 2009. Jay has always lived in Iona and for 60 years he worked for the Idaho Livestock Auction. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, among the callings he served in were in the Bishopric, on the Stake High Council and as a High Priest Group Leader. Jay was a member of the Bonneville County Cattleman's Association and the Idaho Wool Growers. He is survived by the following: son, Reed (Ronda) Longhurst of Idaho Falls; Daughters: DeAnne (Steve) Borgquist of San Diego, California; and Trenna (Delmar) Hall of Idaho Falls; a brother, Bob (Verda) Longhurst of Idaho Falls; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and his wife, Marjorie, Jay was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Eddie Longhurst and Glen Longhurst; and 2 sisters: Maxine Meadows and Berniece Stosich. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Cloverdale LDS Chapel, 930 N. Crimson Dr. with Bishop Robert Bodily of the Iona 11th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012, at Coltrin Mortuary, and at the church Saturday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
