Beloved husband, father, and grampa, Calvin J. McBride, 86, formerly of Idaho Falls passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2014, at his home in Sparks, Nevada, surrounded by his family. He was born August 24th, 1927, the third of eleven children born to Garnel J. McBride and Elda Roylance McBride in Goshen, Idaho. He was raised on a farm in Goshen and spent his childhood working hard on their family farm in Osgood. Cal graduated from Utah State University where he earned his bachelors degree in business administration. He served two tours in the U.S. Army where he became a lieutenant. While he was in the service, his mother passed away and his father re-married, Ruth Warnock. On July 18th, 1950, Calvin married Reeta "Rayola" Carpenter in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. After a few years of marriage and no children, they were called as a young couple to serve a mission in Askov, Minnesota, where Cal served as a Branch President. Towards the end of their mission, they were given a blessing by Elder Sterling W. Sill stating that they would have children. After returning home from their mission, this blessing was fulfilled and the family grew to include six children. Cal worked for R.T French's in Shelley for several years as a purchasing agent before moving to Sparks, Nevada, where he opened C & M Music Center where he sold pianos, organs and rented band instruments to schools in the area. Cal loved sports and after retiring from the music business, he umpired softball and football games for the youth in the Truckee Meadows area. Calvin's lively sense of humor will be sorely missed by all who new him. Above all else, he loved spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, R. Royala McBride; children: Roxanne Milich; Brian (Jill) McBride; Trudi Milligan; Blair McBride; Holly (Russ) Smith; their adopted foreign exchange student from Brazil, Roberto Hilf DeMoreas; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; siblings: Roy (Blanch) McBride, Alene (Vernon) Hill, Leila (Allan) Wilkins, Sharlene, (Russell, deceased) Billings, Don (Sharon) McBride, Garnalee (Tom) Harrington, and Paul (Tari) McBride. Cal was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, a daughter, Rita; 2 sisters: Cecil Murdock Brown and Patricia Farrens and a brother, Robert McBride. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 in Sparks, Nevada, at the LDS Chapel at 2955 Rock Blvd. Graveside services and burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho, under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls.
