Carma Lucina Waite Sedgwick, 87, of Idaho Falls, died Monday, January 22, 2018, at her home with family around her. She was under the care of her daughter, Tracy and her husband Brian, as well as her daughter, Tonja.
Carma was born October 31, 1930, to Alvin Barnes Waite and Anna Frew Waite, in Syracuse, Utah. She grew up in the Syracuse/West Point area. In 1948 she graduated from Davis High School. She attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City,Utah.
On October 14, 1949, she married her true love, Norman Nance Sedgwick, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together they raised their six children.
They lived in many different places including: Bountiful, Cedar City, Boise, Twin Falls, Sacramento and Idaho Falls. Carma worked as a secretary for many years and then she ran a Day Care Center out of her home.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many leadership positions in the Relief Society, Young Women's and Primary organizations. She served in the Oakland and Sacramento Temples for more than 22 years.
Carma enjoyed reading, sewing, crafting, upholstery work, and auto mechanics. If something needed to be done, she learned how and then did it. She played the piano beautifully.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who loved her family and gave great service to all around her. She loved and lived the gospel and was an example to all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Corey (Joan) Sedgwick,of Madison, Alabama; her daughters Shelly (Ken) Harris, of Cameron Park, Calif.; Terry (Mark) Purcell, of Elk Grove, Calif.; Tonja (Joseph) Poppleton, of Ammon, Idaho; Tracy (Brian) Ricks, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; her son, Norman Alan Sedgwick, of Sacramento,Calif.; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; sisters ArDeane (Sid) Yeates of Fountain Valley, Calif. and Sharone Belnap of Hooper,Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, three sisters, four brothers and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 27, at the LDS Church, 1313 So. 2500 W, Syracuse, Utah. The family will visit with friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to services, under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary.
