Light a candle at the Caroline Baughman Memorial Website

Caroline "Carol" Rachel Emery was born January 30, 1929, in Mitchell, Nebraska, to John W. Emery and Bernice Ohme Emery. She participated in track and field events in high school graduating in 1946 from Mitchell High School.

She married Dale D. Baughman on March 25, 1947, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They soon moved to San Rafael, California, where Dale was stationed in the Army Air Corps. Their first child, John Milton was born later that year followed two years later by a daughter, Connie Lynn.

After moving back to Mitchell, then to Driggs, Idaho, the family settled in Idaho Falls. Carol attended the Sacred Heart Hospital Nursing School and worked there for two years. She worked for Doctors, John Bingham and Mark Knudsen, and at Life Care Center for eleven years before retiring. Carol enjoyed her nursing career, bowling, macramé and reading. Many weekends were spent up at the cabin in Island Park.

Carol was hard working and loved to share stories that would make people laugh. Quite often after a story, she would be found with tears running down her face from laughing too hard. Her grandchildren loved her humor and positive, get-it-done attitude.

In 2004, she was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer and fought it as only she could. She died peacefully in her sleep at home on January 25, 2009, at the age of 79. She will be deeply missed.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, who passed away in 1996; a grandson, Trent Taylor; and a brother, Clayton (Betty) Emery.

She is survived by her son, John Baughman of Idaho Falls and daughter, Connie (Steve) Taylor of Ammon; 4 grandchildren: Tina (Jeff), Tamra (Randall), Troy (Jenny), and Tyson (Jenae); and 14 great-grandchildren: Zakkary, Hunter, Vanessa, Trent, Carson, Tyler, Taylor, Shauri, Josie, Hayden, Quinton, Zaida, Andrae and Savana.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Fielding Memorial Cemetery in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the graveside services at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls.
