IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cecil D.
Lofthouse
January 21, 1922 – May 5, 2006
Cecil D. Lofthouse, loving father, grand-father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at home May 5, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. Cecil was born 21 January 1922 in Driggs, Idaho, the son of George Fredrick Lofthouse and Ellen Maria Danielson. He grew up and was educated in Teton Valley, graduating from Teton High School in 1941.
Cecil was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and married Merle Fullmer in the Idaho Falls Temple on February 6, 1946. He humbly served in many church callings including high priest leadership, executive secretary, and ward missionary. His quiet, constant example was a light to family and friends alike. He and his wife served as couple missionaries in the Corpus Christi, TX, Mission in 1992.
Cecil received his training in Sheet Metal lay-out at ISU Vo-Tech and he became a craftsman at his trade. He began work installing furnaces. He later owned and operated Lofthouse Heating & Appliance in Montpelier and later in Driggs. In 1954 he went to work for General Electric near Arco as a Journeyman Tinner. The family moved to Rigby where they lived for ten years. Ill health forced him to retire from sheet metal work and he became self-employed. Cecil's good nature and sense of humor endeared him to many young people as he and his wife, Merle, owned and managed the family business Skateland at North Yellowstone Highway, Idaho Falls, during the late 1960's and 70's.
In his later years he returned to his sheet-metal craft working for Jewell Electric. Retirement found him busy gardening, maintaining his rental properties, taking videos of family and social events, and caring for those around him. Many of his friends were recipients of his gracious/compassionate care.
He is survived by his wife, Merle F. Lofthouse, of Idaho Falls, and children, Bonnie L.Shelton (Boyd Norvell) of North Ogden, UT; Val J. Lofthouse (Jackie), of Idaho Falls; Peggy Solomon (David) of Rigby; Cecile Hill (Bud) of Tetonia; Janet Engberson (Lynn) of Centerville, UT; and Wayne C. Lofthouse (Shauna) of Pleasant View, UT; 35 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rhoda Lofthouse Bowen, of Idaho Falls.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9th, 2006, at the Idaho Falls 4th Ward LDS Chapel, 955 Memorial Dr. in Idaho Falls with Bishop Larry Wilson officiating. The Family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at the Cache -Clawson Cemetery in Tetonia Idaho. The family would like to express gratitude to the caring hospice nurses from Aspen.
