She was born July 11, 1923, in Unity, Wisconsin, to Joseph Leonhard and Clara Junk Dean. She grew up and attended school in Wisconsin.

She owned and operated a restaurant. She enjoyed serving her customers more than the financial gain.

She was an excellent homemaker and cook. Clara enjoyed raising her children and cooking for her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and a brother, Sylvester Leonhard .
