Clara Newby, 99, of the Heise area passed away at home on August 9, 2015. She was born June 10, 1916, in Duluth, Minnesota to Norwegian emigrants Hans and Anna Knutson who later homesteaded in the Casper, Wyoming area. She graduated from Casper High School in 1934, and then enrolled at the University of Wyoming earning a bachelor's degree in Homemaking. Upon graduation she worked for Farm Security Services when she met Marvon Newby and they married on January 5, 1941. In 1947, they moved to Idaho Falls where they opened an implement dealership and had 5 children. She was the bookkeeper for the business. In 1960, they sold the business and moved to the farm at Heise. There she raised her family and enjoyed her love of gardening and never tired of the sights and sounds of life in the country. She was a 4-H leader, fair judge, and camp counselor. She was also a substitute teacher at Ririe. She was a member of Garden, Bridge, Stitchery, and Homemakers club, and Sons of Norway. An accomplished artist and an avid reader, "she loved to learn, she loved to teach". The oldest of seven children, she is survived by sisters, Betty Kaufmann and Ruth Pitts; three sons: Marvon (Fonda) Newby, Jr.of Crestview FL., Vernon (Chris) Newby of Hayden Lake, ID and George (Tennessee) Newby of Ririe, ID; two daughters, Mrs. Vera (Bruce) Anderson of Ririe, ID and Mrs. Ginger (Bob) Rundberg of Los Alamos, N.M., fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held August 29, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Red Barn at 7N Ranch with lunch following.
