She was born April 27, 1920, in Clementsville, Idaho to Joseph Nelson and Alice Harriman Nelson. She grew up in Clementsville and Rexburg. She graduated from Madison High School in 1938. In 1940, she earned her Associate degree in education from Ricks College. She taught elementary school in Cedron (near Victor).
On June 23, 1940, she married Darrell G. Wood in Rexburg. He died September 16, 1991. They lived in Rexburg, Chehalis, Washington; Ahsahka, Idaho; Fairbanks, Alaska; and Idaho Falls.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and while living in Chehalis, Washington, she served as a Relief Society President and as an Education Counselor while living in Orofino.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, flower gardening, oil painting, writing, traveling, and candy making.
Clara will be remembered for her happy cheerful nature, courage, optimism, love for family and the many friends she added to her family.
She is survived by the following: son, Ted V. (Eileen) Wood of Idaho Falls son, Don E. (Ann) Wood of Edmonds, Washington daughter, Kay (Orville) Durden of Kelso, Washington daughter, Candace (Mike) Crosby of Salmon, Idaho 12 grandchildren 20 great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2006, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services. Burial will be Tuesday, September 19, 2006, in Orofino, Idaho. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
