Obituary

Clyde Phillips Hill, 91, passed away at his home in Ucon, Idaho on May 20, 2017.

Clyde was born May 7, 1926, to Henry C Hill and Nora Phillips Hill in Ucon where he spent his childhood, graduating from Ucon High School in 1944.  Clyde enlisted in the Navy soon after, serving from 1944 - 46 on the USS Sibley, being involved in the invasion of Iwo Jima in 1945. He served an LDS mission in the New England States from 1947-49.  He talked fondly of both of these opportunities to both serve in and visit many parts of the world.

Clyde met his wife Doris Scholes on a blind date in the spring of 1950. They were married Nov. 17, 1950, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. They are the parents of five children. Clyde loved family travel, especially camping trips where he could take his fishing pole, sailboat, and four-wheeler to keep up with the grandkids.

Clyde is best known for his natural music abilities, having learned to play the piano at an early age and learning many other instruments through the years.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1953 from Ricks College and set music as his life's goal, teaching band and voice to middle school students in Soda Springs, ID; Sheridan Wy; and Pocatello, Id. His teaching schedule also included earth science where he shared his love of geology.

Through the years Clyde help provide music for many dances and events across the Snake River Valley. He was associated with the Gary Harris Group for more than 40 years, in which he played bass guitar, saxophone, and key boards - including many synthesized instruments.

In 1977, after teaching for many years in Pocatello, Clyde and Doris relocated to the family farm in Ucon.  Clyde worked as a draftsman for INL until 1991.  He served in the LDS church as an organist, chorister, ward clerk, scout leader, and teacher. Clyde and Doris served three full-time missions in the Idaho Falls area as temple workers for 7 years, full-time cannery consultants for 1 year, and 5 years at the Family History Center.

He is survived by Doris, his wife of 67 years; siblings: Weston (Wilma) Hill, and Carol (Ken) Meppen; 3 children:  Steven (Debra) Hill, of Pocatello, Lisa (Kay) Stucki of Rigby, Jonathan of Los Angeles, Ca.; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law Alvin Adams and LaVon (Hunter) Scholes; sisters: Luana (Ron) McFadden and Janet Wray; oldest son Craig Hill; and third son Bradley (Karen) Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Milo Chapel, 12127 North 75th East . A visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
