Obituary

Clyde Rowland Toole Jr., 84, of Idaho Falls, died Friday, November 17, 2017, at his home.

He was born July 24, 1933, in Seattle, WA to Esther and Clyde Toole Sr. He was an only child but had cousins, Joene and Donna, that were like sisters to him.  When he was 7 years old his family moved to Sitka, Alaska for a year then moved back to Everett, WA.  All the kids in the neighborhood would meet in the park to play baseball, basketball and football.  They had to depend on each other or the YMCA to learn how to play better since most of their fathers were gone for WWII.

A friend asked him to crew his sailboat.  They did well in local competitions on the Columbia River.  They decided they were so good they should go to a competition in Southern Oregon.  They found out that knowing the local river currents was a great advantage and didn't fair so well outside of the Columbia.

Clyde earned a scholarship to the University of Washington where he played football and studied physics.  He joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity where he met more friends for life.  He also met the love of his life, Hazel Ruth Coppess, when his cousin knowingly sent him to pick her up from the train depot. He was very proud to be a UW Husky and wore his purple and gold all year.

Clyde and Hazel were married on June 15, 1957, in Seattle, Washington. They had 4 girls.  Family was very important to him and he adored all his girls.  They spoiled him in return.  He also adored all his grandchildren and kept up on everything they were doing to the very end.

Community was also very important to Clyde. He served on several programs and boards, some of which are: Coached Little League Football, District 91 School Board member for 20 years, IFHS Booster Club Booster of the Year, Idaho State Board of Education advisor for improving math and science curriculum, Retired Nuclear Workers board member, IF Food Bank volunteer, St John's Episcopal Church volunteer.

He is survived by his children: Kelli (Marshall) & Mike, Drew, Mikell; Shauna (Pawlowski) & Mike, Ben, Jill; Erin (Albertson) & Mark, Kelan, Sean & Lauren (Sean's wife); Megan (Teckmeyer) & Ed; grand dogs – Frances, Trey, Peyton, Kirby and Kitty Boo.

In lieu of flowers a donation under Clyde's name to one of his favorite charities would be appreciated. Snake River Animal Shelter, 3000 Lindsay Blvd, Idaho Falls, ID 83402; IF Community Food Basket, 245 N. Placer Ave. Idaho Falls, ID 83402; or YMCA Youth Programs, 155 N. Corner St., Idaho Falls, ID 83402.
