IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cornelius
Mahoney
December 14, 1927 – December 22, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Con Mahoney.
He was born in Dorchester, MA., to Matthew and Margaret Mahoney in 1927. After completing his education in the Boston area, he joined the U.S. Navy Seabees at age 17. He served his country for 2 years in the Philippines. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Massachusetts.
In 1948, he married his wife of 70 years, Marie. They went on to have seven children: Christine, Tommy, Cheryl, Connie, Janice, Damian, and Vince. In the mid-1950s, Con and family moved west to the Los Angeles area of California. Following multiple years of work on the Nautilus submarine project, Con was reassigned to Idaho Falls.
In 1967, Con made the brave move to open his own mechanical contracting business in Idaho Falls, Atlas Mechanical. He retired and sold his business in 2001.
Con participated in many civic and political organizations over the years. Beginning in Rockland, MA., as a young city council member, he would later serve several terms in the Idaho House of Representatives. He headed many National and State organizations, such as the IF Chamber of Commerce, NAPHCC, and SMACNA. He was also the Idaho Small Businessman of the Year.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie, and two sons, Tommy and Connie. He is survived by his other 5 children: Christine Mahoney, Cheryl Barnett, Janice Mahoney (Jeff Wahlgren), Damian Mahoney, and Vince (Stephanie) Mahoney.
Private services will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Online condolences may be sent to www.coltrinmortuary.com.
