IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Craig Darwin
Barnes
March 31, 1949 – July 4, 2025
Craig, a fun-loving and devoted family man, spent his life in Idaho as an avid outdoorsman, fishing and hunting from Palisades to the Middle Fork, while also building a legacy as an accomplished architect who designed and constructed numerous buildings across southeastern Idaho.
Craig was born on March 31, 1949, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to his proud parents, Darwin and Myrtle Barnes, and his adoring older sister, Kaye. Craig spent much of his childhood exploring Island Park. He idolized and tagged along with his grandfather, Cyrus Andrews, a builder who constructed the lodge at Mack's Inn. These childhood experiences instilled in Craig his love for construction and the great outdoors. Craig graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1968 and continued to the University of Idaho, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 1972.
While attending college, he met Colleen Montell, whom he married in 1969. They welcomed twins, Adrienne and Taylor, in 1977. Craig and Colleen later divorced. Craig then met the love of his life, Stacey Savage Sewell, and they married in 1988, blending their families. Craig welcomed Stacey's children, BJ and Megan, into his life. They spent a joyful life enjoying the beauty of Idaho, camping, fishing, boating, and spending quality time with their family.
Craig was an architect and a construction manager for over twenty years, working for Briggs and Brennan Construction.
Stacey cared for him until his peaceful passing at home on the 4th of July.
He is survived by his wife, Stacey Barnes; his children: Taylor (Sarah) Barnes, Adrienne (Dan) Taylor, Megan Sewell (Shawn Postma), and BJ Sewell (Kellyn Misset); his sister, Kaye (Roger) Littleford; and his two grandchildren.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date. Cremation is under the care of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Online condolences may be sent to www.coltrinmortuary.com.
