IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel James
Schilling
April 2, 1970 – March 27, 2025
Daniel James Schilling, born on April 2, 1970, in Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully with his loving wife and stepson by his side on March 27, 2025, at the age of 54 in Rigby, ID. A devoted Christian, Dan's life was a testament to his faith and commitment to service.
Dan's journey was marked by a series of accomplishments that spoke to his courage and dedication. He was a Deputy Sheriff with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, starting in 1997, and later became a respected member of the SWAT and other specialized teams. His commitment to law enforcement extended internationally as he served as a Police Mentor for the State Department in Afghanistan, training local police forces. Dan most recently held the position of Security Police Captain at the NRF, where he led a team with his outstanding characteristic leadership traits.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dan cherished personal milestones, including his marriage on September 28, 2022, to the love of his life, his dogs, and his thrilling bear hunting adventures in Canada, where he skillfully used his bow to hunt two cinnamon bears on two separate occasions.
Dan's kindness, humor, and caring nature left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He was passionate about his Lutheran faith and always ready to lend a helping hand and provide guidance.
He is lovingly remembered and missed greatly by his family: his wife, Erica Christine Schilling; his Step Sons, John Stephen Bogner and Brady Sainz; his Step Daughter, Marissa Louise Bogner; father, David Schilling; mother, Naomi Schilling; daughter, Samantha Marie Schilling; sister, Carrie Wilhelm; Brother in Law Clint; a niece and nephew, Chloe and Cooper; and Aunts and Uncles in Oregon and Colorado.
A celebration of Dan's life will be held at the home he shared with Erica at 4563 East 75 North, Rigby, ID 83442, on April 26, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. In accordance with Dan's wishes, attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite college football team attire or something that represents Dan, as he wanted a joyful celebration free from the somberness of traditional black clothing.
As we remember Dan, we are comforted by his favorite scripture, Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." His unwavering faith and love will continue to inspire those who knew him.
