Obituary

Darlene Beverly Holverson went home to the lord on October 23rd, 2015. She passed away while battling cancer with her family at her side. She was under the loving care of One Source Hospice and Teton Cancer Institute. Darlene was born on December 11th, 1937, to August and Elsie Quist in Portland, Washington, where she went to school and graduated from Montesano High School in 1957. In 1960, she married Ron Higgins and had four beautiful children. They lived together and raised their children in Kelso, Washington and as a family they enjoyed bowling in a league together and watching their boys play sports. Darlene also enjoyed her time in ballet with Dawna. Ron and Darlene were married for 19 years until Ron passed away in 1979. In the 80's, Darlene co-owned and ran the Peg and Dar Deli with her best friend Peggy House. After a couple of years she returned at the Carriage Restaurant. While working there she met John Holverson. They married on October 6th, 1990. They had the most beautiful inspiring relationship. Together they worked side by side in one of the most amazing journeys a couple could ever be blessed with. Their family grew with John's three children. Two years after they married, John and Dar moved to Idaho Falls to be near John's family. They were married 23 years until John's death on August 17th, 2014. Dar went to work at the North Hi-Way Café from 1992 until July 28th, 2015. She made many friends at the café, many who became part of her family. She was admired for her determination (never let life get you down attitude). Dar was a strong woman who believed in hard work and putting her family and friends above everything else. She made a positive and lasting impression on everyone she met. Five years ago, Dar and John's hearts & home were filled with love and laughter when their two grandchildren, Brody & Tayler Chalupa came to live with them. Darlene talked often in her last days of how happy she and John were the day the children moved in and how much joy the kids had given them. Todd and Veronica Holverson, Darlene's nephew and his wife, were a blessing in Dar's life, especially towards the end of her courageous battle with cancer. They made sure she was comfortable and treated like the "queen" that she was. Darlene had so much love in her heart for Todd and Veronica and said everyday how blessed she was to have them in her life. They were God's last gift to her and Dar was God's gift to them. Darlene leaves behind her sons: Donnie (Nadine) Higgins and David (Shannon) Higgins and her daughter, Dawna Chalupa; John's children, 13 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews and little brother, Eddie Quist. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ron Higgins; second husband, John Holverson; eldest son, Dale Higgins; a big brother, Wally Stage; and a big sister, June Quist. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2015, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com
