Obituary

Darwin Lyle Rainsdon, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed peacefully from this life on November 28, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

Darwin was born September 5, 1929, in Taylor, Idaho, to Charles S. and Ruby L. (McBride) Rainsdon. At the age of one, he moved with his family to a farm west of Moreland, Idaho, where he learned to work and the art of farming. During the summer he would often sleep outside under the stars. He enjoyed sports, fishing, and hunting.

One Spring Day in 1949, Darwin and some friends traveled to Lava Hot Springs for a day of fun that changed his life. On that same day, Jenean Hill traveled from Pocatello to Lava Hot Springs with some of her friends. There, Darwin and Jenean became acquainted and began a romance that has endured more than 70 years. They were married in January 1950 and will be together forever.

Darwin made a living as a farmer. In 1963, Darwin and Jenean purchased a farm west of Moreland where they raised livestock, hay, grain, potatoes, sugar beets, and children. They were blessed with eleven children. Their children thought they also raised rocks on that farm as there seemed to be an endless supply. Darwin designed and then built a brand for his livestock; it was the 4R brand. He said it stood for Reading, Righting, Rithmatic, and Rocks; He often jokingly said about his kids, "If they don't like the first three, give them the last." Many an hour was spent with all four of the Rs.

After many years in the Moreland area, they moved to Firth, Idaho before finally moving to their current home in Idaho Falls.

Darwin served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints wherever called. After retirement, he and Jenean served five missions for the Church. Their faith and service are a priceless and lasting legacy for their posterity.

Darwin spent many hours during retirement in his woodworking shop. He made cedar chests for his granddaughters and treasure boxes for all of his great-grandchildren. Darwin also spent countless hours fixing and building projects for his children.

He was preceded in death by two daughters: Linda Marie and Cindy Lou (Douglas) Williams; and one granddaughter, Katara Rae Vail.

Left to cherish his memory are his eternal companion, Jenean Hill Rainsdon; and his children: Patricia King, Steven (Rea) Rainsdon, Michael (Theresa) Rainsdon, Marvin (Colleen) Rainsdon, Gary (Lori) Rainsdon, Sheri (Jeffrey) Vail, Jerry (Kerry) Rainsdon, Alan (Ginny) Rainsdon, and Cathy (Sean) Bennett. In addition, he is survived by 50 grandchildren and 103 great-grandchildren.
