Darwin Ray Smith was born August 24, 1947 in St. Anthony, Idaho. He died January 28, 2010 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He lived most of his life in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was a big man, 6 feet and 9 inches tall. He was a star athlete in high school, excelling football, basketball, and wrestling. He later earned a black belt in karate. After high school he joined the paratroopers during the Vietnam War. He became a Green Beret and served two tours in Vietnam. He loved to fish, hunt, and ride his motorcycle. He also had a compassion for animals. He traveled around the country and enjoyed life. He was a gambler, he loved to play cards. He lived in Vegas at one time and really took gambling serious. He did well. He was a large truck salesman and later owned and operated his own business. He is survived by his mother; Lila Smith, sister; Trina Pettingill, brother; Ren Smith, several nephews, and his wife; Janet Smith, who took care of him the last 2 ½ years, while he was sick. He is preceded in death by his father; Vernon Charles Smith, and grandparents; Berthie and Cyril Baker. No services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary.
