David Raymond Balls, 70, of Iona, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 18, 2017, surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer.

David was born on August 31, 1947, in Pocatello, Idaho to Clarence and Melba Maisey Balls. He grew up in the Pocatello area and graduated from Highland High School in 1966. He ran cross country in high school. He helped run his dad's services station Clarence's Mobil on the corner of Oak and Jefferson. He helped from the time he was in junior high school until he went on his mission.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an LDS mission to Central British England for two years. He loved to serve and served in various callings including: a Seventy, High Priest group leader, Gospel Essential teacher, ward missionary, and temple service volunteer working in the laundry and cafeteria.

After returning from his mission he attended Ricks College. He later worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years.
On November 22, 1974, he married Shawna Jo Hughes in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. From that marriage came three children: Michael, Julia and Natalie. David and Shawna were married for 35 years before Shawna passed away in 2010. David later met and married Linda Johnson on June 22, 2013, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

David had a great love for driving for auto dealerships. He also enjoyed singing, eating, dancing, staying up on current events, karaoke, traveling and finding good deals.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; three children: Michael Balls of Moscow, Idaho, Julia Balls of Mesa, Arizona and Natalie Jex of Ogden, Utah; his sister Laura Lee Littlefield; his brothers: Daniel (Denise) Balls and Kenneth (Diane) Balls, all of Pocatello, Idaho; two grandchildren: Oliver and Eliza of Caldwell, Idaho; Linda's children: Jennifer Marsh of Pennsylvania, Tiffani Duff of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Shanda Flora of Anchorage, Alaska, Trina Mondok of Colorado, Travis Mondok of Dallas, Texas, Elan Mondok of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Melissa Signoracci of Tampa, Florida and David Mondok of Anchorage, Alaska; Linda's 13 granchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and Linda's mom, La June Hall.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shawna Hughes Balls; his parents: Clarence and Melba Balls; his sister, Claudia McClain; his son-in-law, Jay Jex; and Linda's dad, Elden Hall.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Iona LDS 12th Ward, 5169 Denning Ave., Iona. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2017, and one hour prior to services both will be at the church.
