David Stewart Sommers "The Rock", 69, of Ririe, Idaho, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born June 15, 1942, in Boise, Idaho, to Lucile Helene Severson Sommers and Henry Earl Sommers. David grew up in Idaho Falls and attended Idaho Falls High School. On July 11, 1959, David married his high school sweetheart, Susan Woodbridge. In August 1959, David joined the United States Navy where he learned sheet metal and welding. He served in the Navy both active and reserves for 19 years. David transferred over to the United States Air Force where he served for 12 more years. He retired from military service in 1991 after serving a total of 31 years. He worked at Argonne National Laboratory from March from 1972 to April 1998 as a sheet metal maintenance specialist. David loved the people he worked with and enjoyed his job. He retired in April 1998 with his wife and high school sweetheart to reside east of Ririe and to continue pursuing life, love, and laughter. David enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, cooking, boating, and four-wheeling. He loved spending time with his family and friends. David was a fun loving, caring individual who always had a kind word, a joke, or a captivating story to tell; qualities that will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Susan L. Sommers; Daughter, Dawnette Russell; Sons; Ronald W. (LaRenda G.) Sommers and James D. (Jennifer Kelsey) Sommers all of Ririe; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucile Kerr and step-father, William B. Kerr; and a daughter, Paula Heilen Sommers. A Memorial Open House will be held from, 2-6:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the home of Susan Sommers, 14215 N. 175 E. in Ririe. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls.
