Obituary

Dean L. Pack, 80, of Idaho Falls, our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away Tuesday March 15, 2011 at the University of Utah Hospital, of Pulmonary Fibrosis. Dean was a fighter and a true example of endurance to the end. Dean was born on May 18, 1930 in Shelley, Idaho to Don and Retta Day Pack. He was raised in Woodville and graduated from Idaho Falls High school in 1949. Dean served in the US Army in Europe during the Korean War from1950-1952. On April 15, 1954, he married Kathleen Anderson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Kathleen died June 29, 1992. Dean later married LaRue Williams Phillips on March 12, 1994. Dean is a 3rd generation dairy farmer of Registered Holsteins. He was the recipient of numerous dairy awards, trophies and banners. Dean worked on the family farm every year with his sons, particularly with Lynn, through fall harvest of 2010. Dean was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During the past 5 winters, he worked at the Bishop's Storehouse. He loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, horseback ride and snowmobile with family and friends. Dean is survived by the following: Lynn (Cindy) Pack, Evelyn (Brent) Ray, Lee (Lisa) Pack, Lamont (Debra) Pack, Leon (Jeneal) Pack, Lavell (Ann) Pack, Lorin (Nicki) Pack; 27 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Robert and Keith (Marva) Pack; step-children: Ellen (Larry) Jackson, Brent Phillips, Ray (Debbie) Phillips, Paul (Charlene) Phillips, Wayne (Corinne) Phillips, Vaughn Phillips, Nancy (Sean) Bigham; 31 step-grandchildren and 25 step-great grandchildren. Dean was a big influence in all of our lives and will be greatly missed by all! Besides his first wife, Kathleen, Dean was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Earl, and a sister, Bonnie Lee. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Sage Lakes LDS Ward Chapel, 3370 N. 5 W. (corner of 5 W. and 33 N, 2 miles south of Dean Pack's dairy). The family will visit with friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls and Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.
