Obituary

Deanna Marchant Luton of Jackson, Wyoming passed away of heart failure on October 11, 2024, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was born on May 24, 1939, in Grant, Idaho to Vernal and Severn Marchant. She was the third child and joined her brother, Jay, and sister, Polly. Her brother, Gene, rounded off their family of six. When Deanna was a teenager, she met her half-sister, Vina Madsen, for the first time. Although they never lived together as siblings, Deanna enjoyed a relationship with Vina, her children, and grandchildren.

Deanna attended schools in Jefferson County and graduated from Rigby High School in 1957.

After completing Excelsior Beauty College, Deanna moved to her beloved Wyoming, where she would live the rest of her life. Deanna married Daryl Luton, and they were later divorced. During their marriage, Daryl and Deanna adopted Tamara Cain.

Deanna worked in the beauty industry for 60+ years where she made many lifetime friends with her coworkers, customers, and their families. She was especially proud of the opportunities she had to do the hair of famous people with Mary Rockefeller and Lady Bird Johnson, the wife of President Lyndon Johnson, being very memorable.

As a cancer survivor, Deanna was passionate about cancer prevention and early detection. She dedicated many years to raising money for the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life. Deanna was a patriotic person and supported the Wounded Warrior Project. She was inspired and grateful for the veterans and their service to our country.

In her spare time, Deanna loved being outdoors and exploring her favorite national parks, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. She relished the times when loved ones would visit her in Jackson and she could escort them through the parks to look for wildlife, share stories, and marvel together at the beauty and splendor of the Teton Range, with Mt. Moran being her personal favorite.

She made thousands of cookies and candy (licorice and caramel) for her friends and neighbors and submitted them to the Teton County Fair where she won many ribbons. Deanna loved celebrating Halloween and enjoyed reading, traveling, swimming at the recreation center, watching her favorite sports teams and players (Houston Rockets, Green Bay Packers, and Buffalo Bills/Josh Allen), and sewing, where she made many beautiful clothes, curtains, pillowcases, and candy bags.

Deanna was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed her calling as the ward librarian. She also loved ministering to the sisters in her ward and was known for her homemade soups, particularly chicken noodle.

Deanna was preceded in death by her parents, Vernal and Severn Hix Marchant; brother, Jay Marchant; and sister, Vina Madsen. She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Cain of Sisters, Oregon; sister, Polly Mortell of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Trish Marchant of Kennewick, Washington; sister-in-law, LaRue Marchant of Grant, Idaho; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Grant Chapel, 3431 East 100 North, Rigby, Idaho. The family will meet with loved ones at a gathering after the service. Services will be streamed live at facebook.com/coltrinmortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 1st Street, Idaho Falls.

Deanna's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the caregivers at Promontory Point, Lincoln Court, and Symbii Home Health and Hospice. The love and kindness you showed her will not be forgotten.
