Grant Dee Shupe, 70, of Salt Lake City and formerly of Hamer, Idaho, died January 13, 2014, at the home of his sister in Rigby where he had been living the past 6 months. Dee was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the third son of Alice and William L. "Bill" Shupe. He grew up in Hamer, Idaho on a ranch which remains in the Lyle Shupe family. He attended grade school in Hamer and graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1961. He joined the U.S Air Force after graduation and served for 8 years. After Dee left the Air Force he went to work for Burroughs in San Francisco, California. He was an Electronic Engineer for Burroughs and Unisys working on Mainframes and Check Processing Systems in California, Nevada, Texas, and Utah. He also became A+ Certified on Microsoft systems and added Network and PC service to his level of support. He worked mostly with the banking industry and traveled, gaining friends throughout the Western United States resulting from his support and spirit. After retirement, Dee continued to work in his garage on various projects and continued to work on computers for family and friends. He also worked closely with his sister, Janet, as the computer geniuses for the family. Dee spent many days working on the ranch in Hamer helping Lyle with all kinds of repair and maintenance. Dee was always a country boy at heart and took that country spirit to the cities where he worked. He never lost the Country Heart or Spirit. Dee was loved and will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Sheryll "Sherry" Tryon Shupe of Salt Lake City; a son, Todd (Alisha) Hewitt of Salt Lake City; a daughter, Anissa (Chris Arlt) Kohlberg of Sacramento, California; brothers: Larry (Barbara) Shupe of Rexburg, Idaho, and Peter L. Shupe of Idaho Falls; a sister, Janet Miller of Rigby; a sister-in-law, Karlene Shupe of Hamer; 6 Grandchildren, 3 Great -grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Dee was preceded in death by his father, William L. "Bill" Shupe, his mother, Alice Wade Shupe; his brother, Lyle Ray Shupe, and a niece, Robbi Shupe Boston. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014, at the Hamer LDS Ward Chapel, 2454 E. 2100 N., in Hamer with Bishop Robert Ball conducting. The family will visit with friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho honor Guard.
