Dennis Dale Pottorff passed away at his home on Saturday evening, March 31, 2012. His family was with him to see him off on his final journey. Denny was the first of five children. He was born March 4, 1934, in Sheridan, Missouri, to Walter Pottorff and Vera Stutesman Pottorff. He lived and attended schools in several different states growing up before his family settled in Falls City, Nebraska. He met Kay DeWald and they were married in the First Methodist Church in Falls City on June 28, 1953. They lived for a short time in Falls City and York, and then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where their five children were born. He was employed at Cushman Manufacturing in Lincoln. Denny moved his family to Idaho Falls in 1964. He worked for a short time with both Hallway Manufacturing and Bingham Mechanical as a welder before joining Idaho Welding Supply in 1967. He retired from Liquid Air in 1989, and finding that retirement was not for him, he worked for Tri-Tool for two years and then returned to Air Liquide until he permanently retired in 1996. After retirement, he and Kay traveled extensively, making many friends in many places. Denny never met a stranger and was always available to lend a helping hand at any time. He was very creative and enjoyed hours spent in his shop inventing all types of tools and parts and building everything imaginable from trailers to wood-burning stoves. He always enjoyed a good motorcycle ride, never heard enough country music, and was a fantastic family man. He loved his children dearly. He was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church. Denny was always at his happiest when his house was filled with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Kay; daughters: Patti (Rod) Smith of Tempe, Arizona, and Lori Pottorff of Idaho Falls; sons: Danny (Christine) Pottorff and Steve (Charlotte) Pottorff of Idaho Falls, and Jim (Diana) Pottorff of Boise; mother-in-law, Iola DeWald and friend, Carla McClure, both of Idaho Falls; brothers: Richard (Ylona) Pottorff of Idaho Falls, and Ronald (Laurie) Pottorff of Seward, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bud Pottorff, and sister, Penny Monroe. A memorial honoring Denny will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012, at St. Paul's Methodist Church, 1730 St. Clair, Idaho Falls, with Reverend Dan Thompson-Aue officiating. Denny will be missed by many, forgotten by none.
