Obituary

Diana Lynn Monson, 65, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away on August 19, 2025, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Diana was born on March 17, 1960, to Leon Wendell Monson and Verla Rae Monson in Malad City, Idaho. She was the third child of seven children. Diana spent her early childhood in Malad City until the family relocated to Blackfoot. She attended Malad Elementary, Stalker Elementary, Blackfoot Jr. High, and Blackfoot High School. She later got her GED.

On August 10, 1975, Diana welcomed her greatest joy—her son, Justin Paul. Throughout her life, she experienced love and loss. She was first married in 1980 and later divorced. In 1988, she married Dick Jorgensen, who passed away in 1991. She married Val Grover in 1992, who passed away in 1998. In her later years, Diana shared a meaningful and cherished companionship with Bart Neil, whose friendship brought her comfort and joy.

Diana pursued many careers throughout her life but found her true calling behind the wheel as a long-haul truck driver. Known for her professionalism and unwavering reliability, she trained countless drivers and was entrusted with critical deliveries across the country. In 2014, she proudly became an owner-operator and later celebrated a remarkable milestone—surpassing one million miles on the road. Diana retired in 2018, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and pride in her work.

Diana had a deep love for animals and was affectionately known as an "animal whisperer." Her connection to nature was evident in her fondness for hummingbirds and the joy she found tending her garden. A gifted seamstress, she began crafting blankets and keepsakes while visiting her sister Donna in Arizona. Diana's warmth and charm made her a natural people person—she could strike up a friendship with anyone. An old soul with a gentle spirit, her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved great-grandchildren, with whom she shared laughter, play, and undivided attention.

She is survived by her son, Justin (Teesha) Mitchell; grandchildren: Braeden (McKadee) Mitchell, Benton (Bailee Taylor) Mitchell, Kobe Millward, Tiana (Juan) Contreras; great-grandchildren: Ariah, Bodhi, Brixton, Brixen, Sebastian (Bash); sisters, Donna (Jim) Booth, Dalena (Paul) Wareing, Deana (Mike) Burnett; brother, Darin (Juanita) Monson; plus multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, sisters: Denease Leatham and Debbie Hammett; nephew, Marcus Burnett; and great-grandson, Zayden Millward.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at EIRMC for taking care of her and for taking care of us during this time.

At Diana's request, there will be no funeral service; however, the family will be holding a celebration of life to be determined at a later date. Cremation is under the care of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Condolences may be sent online to www.coltrinmortuary.com.
