Dolores Casella, 87 years old, was born June 3, 1931 in Staten Island, New York to Evelyn and Arthur Simmonds. She passed away peacefully on August 31, 2018 in Rexburg Idaho.

Dolores is survived by her sons, Leonard, Wayne and Chris Casella, her daughter Teresa Casella and her grandchildren, Tim Casella and Deborah Croft. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Lourice Casella.

While raising five children, Dolores was also a world renowned author and local restauranter. She published five cookbooks and wrote numerous articles for various prestigious magazines. She operated three restaurants in Idaho Falls over a twenty five year span.

Dolores's love of the culinary craft led her to teach cooking classes, for all ages and she appeared on TV with her own cooking show and wrote for the Post Register for several years.

Dolores was known for her intelligence, her charisma and her candid approach to life.

She also threw the best parties. Dolores would put an extravagant buffet out for as many people could fit in our home, often times exceeding as many as 100 people. Fond memories include roasting entire pigs in the back yard and members of the Idaho Falls Symphony as well as fellow writers, restauranteurs, her many friends and new comers to town often among the attendees. She always cherished the camaraderie and relationships she made over the years.

Dolores was a talented writer with four of her five books selling over a million copies. She wrote with an affectionate writing style, relatable by all, stories about the recipes she had learned and the people that the recipes had impacted.

Dolores had a love for people, animals, the arts, literature and the community. We will cherish the memories she gave us. We are thankful for the time we were able spend with her and we look forward to our next journey together. At her request no services will be held. Arrangements are under the care of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls.
