Obituary

Don Elvin Meacham, 75, passed away on December 15, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born on August 12, 1950, in Soda Springs, Idaho, alongside his twin brother, Duane, to Elvin and Ora Hubbard Meacham. Don was one of ten children and grew up on the family farm in Lago, Idaho.

Don and Duane were well-known in the valley for their athletic talents, excelling in football, track, and basketball at Grace High School. When not competing, they spent their time working on the farm, riding horses, milking cows, bucking hay, hunting in Ant Canyon, shooting guns, and doing their best to stay out of trouble.

After high school, Don briefly attended Utah State University before he was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Manchester, England. Upon returning, he completed his education at Utah State, earning a bachelor’s degree in business management and marketing.

On October 12, 1972, Don married his high school sweetheart, Wendy Lynn Simmons, in the Logan Utah Temple, where they are sealed for time and all eternity. Together, they lovingly raised four children—Nick, Kelly, Rochelle, and Jared—each of whom Don cherishes deeply. He devoted countless hours to coaching, teaching, and practicing with them, sharing his passion for sports. Football, basketball, baseball, golf, and lacrosse were among his favorites—a love he carried forward with his grandchildren, whether cheering from the sidelines or watching via live stream.

Don enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz, playing golf, water and snow skiing, riding snowmobiles, spending time with his pups, and taking Sunday drives. Known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and gift of gab, Don built a successful career in sales, mainly in the cattle and potato industries. He made many friends along the way and fostered memorable relationships wherever he went.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Don served in many callings throughout his life, most recently on the High Council at BYU–Idaho and the ward missionary committee. He hosted and organized meals for local missionaries, and he and Wendy are known for their warm hospitality in making visitors feel welcome in their home. They especially enjoy their family home evening group.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Wendy Meacham; his children Nick (Amy), Kelly (Tara), Rochelle (Dixon), and Jared (Leah); 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Joyce Kirby (Reed), John Arlen Meacham (Joan), and his twin brother Duane Meacham (Laurie). He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Ora Meacham, and siblings: Carol Hanson (Phil), Beverly Jensen (Kimball), twins Kaye and Kathleen Meacham, Dean Meacham (Berti), and Louis Meacham (Janice).

Tribute: Don will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for family, and his ability to make everyone feel valued. His laughter, wisdom, and kindness touched countless lives, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, generosity, and devotion. Though he is no longer with us, his example will continue to inspire all who knew him.
