Don E. Storer, 89, of Ucon, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Fairwinds-Sandcreek Retirement Center. He was under the care of OneSource Home Health and Hospice.
Don was born on December 13, 1927, to Lorus Storer and May Peterson Storer, in Milo, Idaho. He grew up in the Milo area. He graduated from Ucon High School in 1947. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.
In November 1950, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served during the Korean War, as an occupation force in Austria. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
On August 14, 1953, he married Velda Ellen Bird in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They shared 58 years together and to this union, four children were born. Velda died on February 6, 2012.
They spent their time in Idaho Falls and Ucon. Later winterizing in Apache Junction, Arizona and Washington, Utah. He worked at Firestone and for Argonne.
Don was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Central Atlantic States right after graduation. Later, he and Velda served a mission to Dallas, Texas.
He served on the Bonneville School District 93 Board for 8 years, and for the Parks and Recreation Committee for Idaho Falls.
Don enjoyed golfing, wood-working and gardening. He was a loving, kind, giving father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Brian Jay (Suzanne) Storer of Springville, Utah; his daughters: Carol Ann (Paul) Godfrey of Billings, Montana and Debra May (Mitchell) Marrott of Kennewick, Washington; his sister, Norma (Ken) Radford of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his brother, Brad (Carolyn) Storer of Iona, Idaho; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velda Storer; his son, Jerry Storer; his parents: Lorus and May Storer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2017, at the Monument LDS Ward, 10854 North 41st East, Ucon, with Bishop Pugmire officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Ucon Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com .
