Obituary

Donald L. Jarvis Sr. died in Idaho Falls, Idaho, in the arms of his loving daughter, Debbie Peebler, on January 4, 2012, at the age of 80. Don was born in Groton, Connecticut, on September 6, 1931. He was the youngest of seven children born to Leon and Margaret Collins Jarvis. Don was raised in Waterford, Connecticut. In the 1950's, Don joined the Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Shortly after he was honorably discharged from the Army, he met the love of his life, Nancy Sullivan. On July 3, 1953, they were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New London, Connecticut. Don and Nancy moved to Idaho Falls in 1962, where they raised their three children. They enjoyed 58 years of traveling and raising their family. Don was extremely proud of his three children, and frequently talked of the happiness he received from their accomplishments. Don worked on the NAUTILIUS SSN 571-first nuclear submarine from 1952 to 1954 and the TRITON SSN 586 in 1959. Don worked in the ship yards in Connecticut until 1962. Then he was transferred to Idaho through Electric Boat. Eventually, he became a member of the Boilermakers Union and was an excellent welder. During his last few years in Connecticut, he went on many hunting adventures which included his prized black bear kill in Maine right before coming to Idaho. H continued his hunting adventures in Idaho. Don had a passion for life and enjoyed shooting pool. He was a member of the Eagles Fraternal Order of the Eagles (FOE) and participated in many pool tournaments. Pool was a passion of his life that he shared with his children, grandchildren, and friends. Later in life, the arrival of his grandchildren became another passion of his. He thoroughly enjoyed his first grandchild, Brandon, and always made sure that he was at all of his football games and was very proud. When his second grandchild, Nicole, came along, he received the pleasure of watching her perform in many ballets and dance competitions. Then when his third grandchildren, Charlie arrived, he knew he had been blessed once again. He made several trips to Laramie, Wyoming, where he enjoyed watching Charley play soccer and baseball. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jarvis of Idaho Falls; Sons: Dr. Donald Jarvis Jr. of Laramie, Wyoming; and Mike Jarvis of Idaho Falls; Daughter, Debbie (Gary) Peebler of Menan, Idaho; 3 grandchildren: Brandon Peebler of Rostock, Germany; Nicole Peebler of Boise, Idaho; and Charlie Jarvis of Laramie.
