Donald Duwayne Patterson, 69, of Idaho Falls, went to be with the Lord, August 25, 2017, surrounded by family singing songs of glory. He passed at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center from complications of a chronic illness.
He was born on March 26, 1948, in Idaho Falls, to Donald Dolphus and Caroline Pearl Kitto Patterson. He attended schools in the area and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He went on to attend Idaho State University and Boise State University. Donald worked at Mountain Bell Telephone Company and Idaho National Laboratory. He retired from the University of Idaho on July 31, 2017, as the video instruction manager.
On July 12, 1976, he married Euranius Yugger Thomas, of Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a loving husband and father of a son and daughter. He enjoyed life in his home with his children and wife of 41 years. He was committed to all of his family and was always there for them. He had a big personality, when he entered the room everyone knew he was there.
Donald grew up attending Community Church of God in Christ where he later served as pastor for 24 years until the time of his passing. He was also the Administrative Assistant for the Idaho Jurisdiction, Church of God in Christ. He had a passion for ministry and a love for people. He used his beautiful baritone voice to sing God's praises.
He was a member of several community service organizations and was a founder of the African American Alliance promoting unity, fairness and equality.
Donald is survived by his wife, Euranius Yugger Patterson; son, Adran (Lori) Posey, of Westminister, Colorado; daughter, Adell Patterson, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brother, Dennis (LaVonna) Patterson, of Idaho Falls; sisters: Norma Patterson, of Idaho Falls, Judy Patterson, of Idaho Falls, Louella (William) Swift, of Boise; Two grandchildren: Jeff and Brian, of Westminster, Colorado; along with a host of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Donald and Caroline Patterson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2017, at CrossPoint Community Church, 1900 Grandview Ave., under the direction of Bishop Taro Golden Sr., Idaho Jurisdictional Prelate, Church of God in Christ. The family will visit with family and friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.coltrinmortuary.com . A reception will be held at the CrossPoint Community Church family center. All are invited to join and celebrate Donald Duwayne's life following the interment.
